I'd rather my tax dollars went to crack hos than to corporate welfare and idiotic wars.

Drugs should be legalized. Collecting and filing information using people's bodily fluid for any reason should be illegal.

As more and more jobs require drug testing it has become difficult to choose a job that doesn't drug test.

Who's not talkin? The sentiment in the thread seems to be overwhelmingly against it, yet the vast majority of votes are for it.

Hey..at least I got one vote for being super sexy.

I'll be the A-hole. I don't like my taxes going to social welfare programs, especially if the recipiants are high. I earn my salary working in a cubicle day in and day out. Why should I have to slave away 40 hours a week to pay some lazy slob to aviod responsibility and have money and free time to show for it. I'm all for drug testing. I had to do it to get my job. I'm also for establishing shorter time limits for welfare benefits. If people want to get high, that's fine but I don't want to pay for it .F*ck that.

Regardless of how you feel about this issue I must say it's certainly a passionate one... Good topic Wilbur, at least it's got people thinking and contributing...

US welfare systems, both Fed and State, cost you and I about .25 a day, yes, a quarter. How many dopers we support, I dont know but I do know its worth it to not have a child go hungry. I mean, if you care at all.

Cost of the Iraq war, per minute.....$28,000

Cost of Corporate Welfare..............$ 1.35 a day per every US citizen.

Spare a quarter, mister?

Which is more pressing?
Which concerns you more?
Which is killing our brave men and women?
Which is fuking the middle class?

Strawman. Nothing more.

"move along, nothing to see here"

Lets note to that in these discussions about "illegal" immigrants, many of them pay into a system they cannot use. My own SS statements show that in 1988/1989, I apparently worked for a company in SD, earning 22k and 26k respectively. Hmm, nope, not me but the benefits and accrued monies are there. The guy who used my SS# wont be getting that money. Same goes for any illegal who doesnt have documentation but is forced to pay into SS. Many times, the employer withholds these monies but then keeps them.

Strawman. Set it up, burn it down.

I'm all for feeding the children. I have a new child that needs to be fed. That's why I have a job. I'm don't support feeding someone who has the ability to do it themselves. I don't give a quarter to panhandlers, so why should I give it out of my paycheck. Yes, I'm selfish and I may be coldhearted but I have my own family to support.

I think it's easy to have that attitude towards those less fortunate than yourself...especially when people take advantage of the system, whether addicts or organized fraud thieves...

However, while I don't have the percentages, there is a substantial segment of society that subsists paycheck to paycheck...only a job loss or a serious illness away from homelessness or needing assistance...

I don't typically give money to panhandlers or freeway beggars...but I have on occassion done so...I don't always donate to the local food bank or mission/shelter but I do when I can...

This isn't an all or nothing problem...they aren't all "loafers" or "lazy" or "addicts" and to characterize them as such is ignorant or worse...

Social welfare, socialism or whatever ism you want to promote or denigrate has it's benefits and shortcomings...I think it is in anyone's best interest that is gainfully employed or financially secure to pay into the system and support people less fortunate regardless of the reasons...

It isn't necessarily simply because you need to do the right thing or are generous...the simple fact is that if enough people are kept down the end result won't likely be a pretty one...although the liquor stores and gun shops have done a pretty good job of keeping some segments of society sedated and at war with each other so that they don't focus their energies towards the powers that be.

I would like to see where you get that stat from. Please provide a link to the information.

By the way, I do not care if it cost me a dime a day, they should still have to piss to get it.

Here is the number from the "Norquist Wing" of Conservative think tanks, you know Norquist, he wants to get the "government down to a size I can drown in a bathtub" Norquist?http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/bg1936.cfm

They say 5000.00 per household, per year. All across the board. This number, because of its source and research, I and you, should suspect is high, very high. Not as high as a welfare queen on the 15th, but high none the less.
I cant find the link for the .25 a day but rest assured, its from the far left and should be viewed as too low, but not as low as letting children starve to death or go homeless.
Is the number in the middle? I doubt it, simply too high still. Unless administration is eating up alot of it which doesnt seem likely with the States' so involved.

Without malice nor bad intent, let me say this...
Me thinks others may have had alot of control wrested away from them and believe that, with the media creating all of these groups to hate, you know, fags, illegal immigrants, niggers, feminazi's, lawyers, enviro-whacko's, flag burners, terrorists, baby killers, father rapers, Muslims and a few others, that by exerting a bit of control through legislation, profiling, etc, they regain some of that control missing in our lives.
I have fallen into this trap once or twice, have any of you?

Its classic communism, we all suffer for the few they choose for us to hate.

Im sorry some of you have to give up a few dollars of your wages but look at it this way, Im older than a few of you, I have thus been paying more for a longer period.

You'll be pissing (no pun really intended) and moaning when that dime becomes a quarter because they had to set up an appeals process to handle the false positives and handling of the tests. Plus, remember they'll be dropping off the kids at your place we'll need a bunch more foster parents.
