Donations

Postby Wilbur Kookmeyer » Fri Apr 11, 2008 3:14 pm

I just got my blood donor card in the mail.

Forgot all about that.

hope it helped someone somewhere.

It is kind of coincidental that today I was thinking about my brother Richard, like I do, every single day, but today I was thinking about something he had done in his death.

He was a donor.

I know that they took some of his skin for grafts, and I think some organ or another, but they also took his eyes.

I was not even aware there was such a thing as eye transplant.

Of course upon hearing that I found it so odd that we have the technological know-how to tranplant eyes, and make them work, but not enough technoligy to save his life....

Anyway....i was fascinated through the day today, and not for the first time, that right now, there is likely someone out there with his eyes.

Seeing the world for the first time again, through Richard's lion-hearted eyes.

He lives on in so many ways, and outside of his music, this is my favorite thought.

Someone somewhere is loving someone through his eyes.

I checked my liscense to make sure I was a donor, and I am.

Are you?

Don't think I'm transplantable. Genetic blood disorder.

I am a donor. So far everything of mine has worked great, it seems like a waste if someone had a use for body parts after I'm gone.
Although somethings like my liver might not be salvagable.

I'm an organ donor for sure, but it took tragedy to open my eyes. Almost 12 years ago my 20 year old sister was killed by a drunk driver. As she lay in the ICU and it was getting obvious that she wasn't gonna make it, some lady started asking about organ donation. At the time, that was the last thing on our mind. We politely refused. After everything, my family agreed we should've donated her organs so somebody else might live. We never know when we're going to faced with something as heavy as this, so if you want your stuff donated you've got to make it official. It'll be easier on everybody if something happens.

my donations don't extend to "front of the line" celebrities and other such contestants. the bootless and unhorsed seem to always be rotting in gods little waiting room while the parade of rich a$$holes stops in for their new liver on the way to Plasticville. so, yes*

Definitely a donor, but I feel sorry for the poor guy who gets these organs! They're like a rental suit from the shack on Waikiki.....toooooore up!

Can you qualify that in your donation? sounds pretty rad to be in need of some spare parts when the doc says "Ah, yeah....says here you make too much money or you've been on Dancing With The Stars, so I'm afraid you're at the back of the line for this liver..."
