How rich is rich?

Postby Wilbur Kookmeyer » Thu Oct 16, 2008 5:13 pm

I keep hearing numbers about the "Top (insert percentage here) of the country" and such...

Who are "the rich"?

And why do so many peoplefeel it is the responsibility of "the rich" to carry the weight of the not-so-rich?

Why do we have to have this "redistribute the wealth" approach?

It's their money.

They won.

Others lost.

What's the problem?

Rich isn't even on your poll list...... those are middle class numbers there.

And I'm being extremely generous with that statement.

I don't want those poor people all pissed at the rich to revolt and kill them all, burn down houses and generally run amuck...
And then assume I am one of the rich just because I have a house in a nice neighborhood, drive a new car, shower daily and have lots of surfboards...
I don't think the plan proposed by Obama even remotely approaches wealth redistribution, nor do I support it...
I also don't support the uber wealthy that is unwilling to assist those in the world that have not "won" on the scale they have.

Exactly. Should mention that the inflation adjusted average wage is actually lower than it was in the 50/60/70's

Rich is not caring about losing you're job.., cause you're rich.

60% think 100K is rich, wow, a lot of two income families are rich then. I'm sure they'd love to hear the good news.

We do have it pretty good in this country when we can say that these are middle class numbers, but you are right Gaz. We are insulated in this country from the reality that most of the world faces. Also a dollar today can only buy about 5% of what it could buy in 1913. That's right - it takes $21 in todays money to equal $1 in pre-fed times. Respectable income for sure, but not rich

"Who are the rich?"

There are only a handful of people in the world that actually control things and are part of the club. The "Uber" Rich represent less than 1% of the population and control the vast percentage of the worlds wealth and resources. The Rothchild fortune alone is estimated at $500,000,000,000,000.000 - Thats trillions of dollars. This sum represents more than half of the entire world's wealth concentrated in one family.

From there you go down the pyramid to find the club's charter members worth anywhere from a few hundred billion to a few hundred million. Rich, but not full fledged members of the club.

Now we get to the multi millionaires - small players, but they do make up part of the 1%.

Then come the comfortably well off and then the middle class.

And then the rest of humanity - over 50% - mostly people of color - they get to live on 2$ a day or less.

It is important to remember that the wealthiest people in the world did not "earn" their money - they were born into it. Most of the super wealthy do not know how to produce anything - they are just very good at moving piles of wealth around and they have been brought up with the system that their ancestors created.

When you say it is "their" money you are righter than you think. They make the money out of nothing and use it to control the worlds resources which rightly belong to everyone on earth not just the 1%. It's the resources they are stealing.

"They won" yep.

"Others lost" Not just others; the vast majority of people on earth lost and are continuing to lose as their resources are plundered by the 1%. The reason for this is not that they are lazy or stupid, it is because they were born in the wrong place, in the wrong family and are the wrong color.

"What's the problem?" Well Wilb, if you can't see the inhumanity, inequality and unsustainability with this system, then that right there is the problem.

rich is the kind of money that warps minds. when on your 8th birthday you walk-in on your father and your new Shetland pony.

does that excite you?

......i don't know. i've never met your father.

The Rothschilds, the Rockefellers, the Warburgs, the JP Morgans and few others make up majority share holders in that little bank we call the Fed. Right now they are busy printing up money as fast as they can to LOAN to the government that will now pump that money right back into the banks that these people also own!!!!

Guess who has to pay the interest on the loan...You and I get that honor Wilbur.

Uh, GROSS income of 100 Kfor a family of four? Before all the deductions?
I see you've really done your research. That would be considered rich in Panama, I suppose.
