You should inform them that a highschool diploma or a GED aren't required to attend community college, where if they achieve enough credits, all state universities are REQUIRED to accept them.

I volunteered as a GED tutor in college. Many of the kids were there as a result of plee agreements with juvenile court that they would get their GEDs'. A lot of them, could care less about the material or the test.

That is, until I started pretending like I, the smart college student, was struggling with the problems. They were all about it then. They were all about proving they were smarter. Of course, I looked like an idiot, but they felt good about themselves and started working. Some found they were smarter than they thought. Obviously, they were smarter than me.

Ego can be a funny thing sometimes.

seems like the Cosbys won't be getting those swimming lessons yet.....maybe some gentle words and heart-felt encouragement will help.
