I will be departing Florida on 3 July for the next chapter of my life, in Oregon. Accompanying me will be my wife, 6 dogs, and 2 cats..... I am not looking forward to this drive.....

Crossing Texas seems to take 2 full days on the 10.

Safe journey.

When you get here, turn around and go home.

haha!

hey gremlin- i'll wave at you as we meet in the middle. i'm making that trip but from this side. and not with six dogs and a cat. i might be stupid but i'm not crazy.
but don't ya'll worry. i'm only staying for a quick visit. then i'll be doing what wilbur suggests. i hope the locals there won't be stressed by my presence.

but really...if you've not made the trip before, it's true about texas,

but they say you gotta go through hell before you get to heaven.

Hey Wilbur, took a job in McMinnville, will be staying for awhile.....

griz, I'm taking the north route through Nebraska, Utah, etc.... Only local BS here is around Sebastian Inlet and New Smyrna, but it's just like anywhere.... Paddle out, don't drop in on anyone, and show them what you got... earn the respect......

I've done the I-10 and I-40 routes before........ Anyone take the north route before?

I tried it once successfully with this Russian chick I met through a work mate. She wanted to get married afterwards. Said she never had anything like it. Or she wanted a green card......

Yeah, I was about 10km from the Russian Border crossing before thinking it wasnt a good idea to continue that trip. I was assured that they could get me across the border with no visa.......

Yeah right....

gremlin-
there's so many waves here, you don't ever have to surf with another human in the water if you don't want to. but usually it's nice to have company...one or two close friends. (i just got out of the water. glassy head high. just me and a friend.- drove down the coast today and saw a dozen spots i could've surfed. no one was at any of them. granted, today was not epic by any means.)
the spots you've heard about are obviously not secret and that's why you've heard about them. but some spots that are popular are fun actually.
compared to sebastian inlet, there is no such thing as crowds here. even the hyped spots.
i think you'll be blown away by the beauty of the places, the coolness of most of the people and the potential quality of the waves.
let me emphasize "most" and "potential".
happy travels.
