Neoprene Allergy

Postby Con » Wed Apr 20, 2011 11:09 am

So for the last few weeks I had been getting some rashes after taking my wetsuit off. I originally wrote it off as heat rash or just irritated skin due to the fact that I am a fair skinned red head. It has progressed from a small hive like rash to a more painful rash with what are closer to sores. After a trip to the doctor yesterday I found I have developed an allergy to neoprene that seems to be worsening each time I suit up. My doc said if I keep it up it could progress and I would run the risk of my throat swelling. Not surfing is obviously not an option...any ideas? Anyone deal with anything like this before? Is my only iption to head for warmer water?

Some sort of rash guard that is a sufficient barrier where you contact the suit?
Or the wool lined Patagonia suits?
That sucks!
I developed an allergy to cherries last year...
But I can live without cherries.
Good luck.

This is all i have been able to come up with...Maybe this with my 3/2 suit?
Apparently this allergy is commonly developed after frequent use of a wetsuit. Hopefully this will help anyone who has this problem or runs into it in the future. Let me know if you come up with something different. Its a little kooky, but only in the parking lot...Better than a drysuit for sure.

The ocean rodeo suit is a last resort at this point. Im going to try on a patagonia suit and see what happens, hopefully the limestone based neoprene will work for me. It got a lot worse when i picked up my new suit. Thanks for the ideas
