Every year I do a dry or sometimes sober October as well as a 3 week stretch around July. October is my birthday month and also surf is usually good, so its a combo of tuning for fall surf and just doing it for that last month of my birth year. It's been nice to have a little window of clarity and man that 1st beer tastes so good at the end of the month, which is on my birthday. The July deal is usually just prepping my "bikini body" for an annual trip to see my fam in coastal New England, which is entirely spent in the water and on beaches bronzing.
I'm mostly a weekend drinker and puffer and don't do either very often Mon-Thurs. Try to keep it to 3 or 4 beers when I do, but sometimes it's just 1 and others it might be 6, which is pretty rare. Also a fan of a good pinot with a meal. I will also sip on a little whiskey this time of year. Took some shrooms for the 1st time in a long while this summer deep in the Cascadian back county, which was pretty fun but noting I am amping to do again soon. That's about it, no coke, heroin, or pills for me but cant say I haven't been there tried that. Just was never really my thing, so never stuck fortunately.
Have seen friends and family go though the ringer with drugs and alcohol and have even lost some of them because of it, so I understand addiction and maybe that has kept me in check. Living in PDX would be a hard place for me go sober and I would have to stay very busy with physical activities, but at this point I don't see any real reason to do so and just try to live by my Nana's long time sage advice "everything in moderation".
