I'd venture to guess a few here & theres were lighting up on those S swell leftovers-- would've gone searchin' if the wind/tide/crowd prospects were a bit more appealing. Watched a few family fun size waves on the cams; surfable, but nothing like what was hitting SoCal:

Strange days indeed....bailed on weekend dawn patrol sessions, felt like it was going to be mayhem. Figured Monday high noon departure from PDX would be a safe bet relative to crowds and traffic. NOPE...solid back up, fully parked on 26 even with 2 lanes. Ended up taking 53 to get to Shortsands. Did not get into the water till 3:45. North wind was all over the south end of the cove, plus there were probably 40 surfers on that end as well. Decided to hang out closer to 3rd creek. Was rewarded with a large number of lefts and rights that held up for multiple turns and hacks. Not as big as the south end but definitely throwing....which was nice. Surfed a couple hours, came in, had a late lunch. Went back out around 6 as fog banks were rolling in. Surfed for another hour, trading waves with a couple of ladies that were killin it. Surf sore and blissed out. Definitely worth the traffic.

Was right there with you Tex. Wife took the day off, so I followed, she wanted to go to a beach, I saw an opportunity for surf thinking, "It's Monday late afternoon, how bad could it be?"....... Got stuck behind the 26 line striping crews for like an extra 45. Lots of unmasked people walking the trail. Should have brought more foam.

We've tried to do a few things lately where I assume there won't be many people and it's swamped. So I think it's time to try hunting for the secret spots.

Been exercising my freedom, protesting, and defending public beaches at the epicenter, the memorial to Oregon’s free beaches, OSWALD WEST STATE PARK! You see the Feds have sent in their jackboots, small framed fit 20 somethings with Volcom Ts, Van skate shoe’s, and trucker hats. They march in and don’t seem to mask up on the trail endangering other surfers and the local communities of the Coast. These Fed-bot surfer bois seem to make the most of the small fluffy thin-lipped wind swell on SoCal shaped HPSBs (Lost, Channel Islands, Hayden) perhaps with relaxed rockers, paddling around the lineup using tactics that do not represent the Aloha surfing was founded on. When they do catch waves they try to slash and brutalize the slopey green faces pumping franticly and gassing anyone in the way. Me, middle aged, midlength man, has come out of months of Covid quarantine despite the number cases skyrocketing to man the front line up trying to resist and stop these wave hogging tyrants. I paddle into these packs and break them up by smiling, gliding into waves, and inviting others to join me for one big party wave trimming a relaxed line that just screams MELLOW OUT MAN. Don’t let the media fool you, they’ve framed me as a terrorist, but I assure you what I am doing is for the good of all. I will not stop or listen to anyone with a different opinion until the beaches are free of these tyrants, major surf companies are defunded, tech tycons stop surfing, and surfboards are no longer manufactured overseas!

I was actually a little surprised about how many foam Odessy boards I saw being trucked up and down the trail.

Intern- where did you surf? If shortsands, what part of the beach?

I remember when the wavestorm trend hit, apprehensive at first, but those things are sooooo easy to paddle and fun to ride shorebreak.

I was at south short sands around ?4/4:30ish? It seemed pretty mellow for a while and had a small peak to myself. But I went out without booties, thinking hot valley= warm water, when I went back out after grabbing them, it seemed like a little more crowded.

If you see a 70's single fin with a shortened and reglassed nose and a deck spray or a log that's just ever so slightly too wide for the person carrying it and they have to drag it, that's me. I can also be found in the line up cocking my head a bit and nodding saying, "Uhh good wave" "Uhh nice hack" "Uhhhhnnnhhn dope bottom turn"

Looks like sponge bloc finally found a lineup they are welcome in. Careful of that marine layer, comrade

You guys are hilarious. Thanks for the chuckles.

I’ve been getting out 1-2x/week for the past couple of months. A few weekend sessions but mostly dawn patrols before work at South Beach. Finally feel like I’m progressing again after a long plateau.

Got out for an after work evening session last night at Agate. Thought it might be blown out with the wind, but there were definitely catchable waves to be had. Caught a number of good rides including a nice backhander, which honestly, is a rarity for this kook. I’m sure it looked ugly from shore, but it felt pretty awesome in the moment. Still smiling this morning. Stoke definitely high.

Foul weather has been live recording via Insta on the protests downtown, he has been right up on the front lines. Crazy @ss shit at the federal building. He actually recorded some Black women giving a speech the other night saying that the BLM movement has been Co-opted by other interests....interesting perspective.
