Anyone else notice that Tex is now officially moderating the OSP? Are we now required to spot name in forums under his jurisdiction? Repeat offenders not only get flagged, but suffer the possibility of an MMA beatdown next time we dare hike into Shorties?
Well, bring it-- I'm a brown belt in Wave Ki, man, and firmly committed to the art of the ultra vague surf report!
Went down a rabbit hole of nerdy weather modeling in anticipation of Snowpocalypse '21. Logistics were maddening given fluctuating surf forecasts, shifting wind models, and a weather forecast that was exceptionally unclear but for the promise of extreme cold/snow/ice/doom somewhere or other. Ended up bailing on my plans at the last possible minute, which turned out to be a good decision for a val. There were surfables, but risk > reward. Lost power for a day and a half, so still got the thrill of the arctic chill.
Fortunately, stocked up the emergency stoke supply with a decent 3 day run prior to the deep freeze, posting up at a very fun beach break with long running rights from the line up to the longshore. Tide was a bit swamped out, but 3-4' swell had enough push to break through and go the distance. log was the ticket to glide, but despite some soft section, it would wall up enough to "accelerate" off of and bank off the top. For the most part surfed with only a few people, although a bit of a crowd formed not too far away scrambling for a more consistent peak. Fine by me.
Also gave SG's bonzer a try during a dying wind swell at a low tide spot. Worked well enough for gutless waves better suited for a groveler or LB, but not exactly what this board (at least at my height/weight) is suited for. Could feel the potential though and am excited to give it a go in more punchy surf-- maybe at Short Sands where the new sheriff in town will no doubt be waiting to regulate...
howl can be?
