W.G.III (for some reason, I turned the comic anti-hero Wilber Kookmeyer's name to a description for someone really kooking out to, Wilber G. (wasn't that his middle initial?) in the third degree, hence...)

Any way - why did you end up cutting down on surfing time, did the fithy lucer lead you away from the coast? I sooo feel your pain, as it were.

"scrotum..." is that funny? I guess kookin' is a little close to your last name. Well good luck, keep up the work

When it comes to improving surfing ability and skill nothing will ever compare to actually getting out into the waves and surfing.

Muscle memory comes from repitition. This becomes helpful to have with the more complex movements in sports. Rather than thinking your way through a swing of the bat or a stroke of the golf club it is easier to practice until the movement is one fluid motion without much thinking involved. Some atheletes refer to this as being "in the zone." The same thing is true for surfing.

Although the best thing to improve surfing skill and ability is actually surfing you should check the title of this post. It's about surfing fitness. Surfing is a great way to get fit and stay in shape, but what have you been doing these last couple of weeks to stay in shape?

Next to surfing I'd say that swimming is probably the best form of excersize you could do to help you with surfing fitness.

Blah Blah.... I just like to swim. I live on the Mtn., it's cold outside. But it's always warm and wet in the pool. I don't like to run if I'm not running from something, and I don't lift weights. As long as I swim, I can still eat burgerville.
It always gets good after everyone leaves.

My problem is............I can't stay out of the water. I no longer have the opportunity to surf everyday...........or even every weekend (during this time of year). So......I try to make up for it by getting in the pool. Being in the water............is the only time I feel comfortable in my own skin. It's my mental therapy.

If you don't like my workouts...........don't do them. Hell.........don't even read them.

Eh.............f@#K it. If any of you guys need a workout, you can pm me.

Keep posting your work out regime NMM I print it out religiously, get naked, stand in front of a full length mirror[this is where the good stuff starts!] and scream at my beer gut "Are you proud of yourself slacker? are you?are you? This is all you have to do you lazy bastard to get it all back!!" After this severe tongue lashing I'm exhausted and sweaty, so I turn down the lights....the music turns up.....but that's just me I'm sure others get their own benefits from the swim channel as I refer to it!

nmm that's tech talk for swimmer who know the lingo. I swim five times a week a mile to a mile and a half per time.

1/4 mile crawl or freestyle.

1/2 mile, butterfly down, backstroke back, breath stroke down, crawl back. Repeat for 36 laps in olympic pool.

1/4 mile flippers and kickboard.

If I go farther , I mix it up and then get goofy with flippers diving and getting rings of the bottom of the pool. WOrks well.

Funny thing is, if I don't swim, I can't freaking surf to save my life. But even after two weeks of solid pool time, I'm much, much more confident in the lineup.

I know its not so practical for many of you but Nordic Skiing is good training also. But not that damn Nordic Track shite. I thought it wouldnt be that great but it does well. When you have to turn, keep balance, go up hill and all of that crap more than just the quads get into it. I was suprised. Hasnt really slowed down my surftime when I get to the water. Swimming in a pool and going to a gym is just way to boring for me. Perhaps if I had some surf mags to read at the gym then it would be different, but I cant get any here. It sucks.

Please........allow me to translate into tech talk.......
1/4 mile crawl or freestyle.

= 440 yds or roughly 405 mtrs.

1/2 mile, butterfly down, backstroke back, breath stroke down, crawl back. Repeat for 36 laps in olympic pool.

Not sure about your math on this one gills.........an "olympic pool" is 50 meters and I'm going to assume that by using the word "laps" you actually mean "lengths". Still...........36 lengths in an olympic pool is 1800 meters........a little more than a mile.

= 1 mile IM (I'm tired just thinking about it....)

1/4 mile flippers and kickboard.

= 440 yds (or 405 mtrs) kick with zoomers

If I go farther , I mix it up and then get goofy with flippers diving and getting rings of the bottom of the pool. WOrks well.

This part I like. I try to finish off my workout with swimming lengths of the pool underwater. As a kid I could make 100 yds no problem. These days.........I'm lucky if I can make 50 meters.

Funny thing is, if I don't swim, I can't freaking surf to save my life. But even after two weeks of solid pool time, I'm much, much more confident in the lineup.

Me too!
