i sincerely believe some people enter the police force with good intentions but the law enforcement system is so incredibly f*cked. officers feel unsupported and soon are forced to become insanely defensive and/or aggresive in their approach to their work. they are simply not trained properly in de-escalation techniques. i've worked with the police a fair bit with my job and i've never met a cop i'd trust.

It's hard to watch a video like that without seeing what preceded it.

Here's some thoughts though:

When I was a kid, everybody was Mr or Mrs, unless it seemed wise to use Sir or Ma'am.

A Police officer would've been Sir.

When a Police Officer pulls me over now, I pull over to the side of the road and stop. I put my hands on the steering wheel, and sit still until the officer approaches. I answer their questions concisely and succinctly.

I have never had an issue like the scenario in this video. I have been pulled over for an open container, detained for brawling, detained for public urination, stopped as a suspect in a case of mistaken identity, filed a stolen car report, reported a dead body, and gotten two speeding tickets. One of those cops was worse than the man in this video, and some of them were mellow.

I wish you guys could see some of the students (and their parents) that I work with. Taken in the context of working all day every day with "at-risk" youth, the cops reaction in that video seems like some sort of fantasy played out.

Baltimore Officer Suspended After Video Surfaces of Him Berating Skateboarder

The Baltimore Police Department suspended a police officer after a video surfaced on the Internet showing the officer berating two kids for skateboarding, putting one of them in a headlock and pushing the boy on the concrete.

The video shows Officer Salvatore Rivieri approach the kids at the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, the area where they apparently were skateboarding. The kids tell Rivieri they didn't know they couldn't skateboard there.

"You back-talk me, I'm not your father," Rivieri says. "You hear me? I'm not your father. You give that attitude to your father. You give it to me, I'll smack you upside the head. Shut your mouth, I'm talking."

Click here to watch the YouTube video.

Rivieri was suspended until an internal investigation is complete, Sterling Clifford, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department, told FOX News.

“Obviously there is behavior there that raised concerns,” Clifford said. “It’s not behavior that’s acceptable and encouraged within the police department.

In the video, after Rivieri pushes the kid on the ground, he takes his skateboard and puts it in his patrol vehicle.

When he returns, he points his finger in the kid's face.

"Obviously your parents don't put a foot in your butt quite enough because you don't understand the meaning of respect," Rivieri says. "First of all, you better learn how to speak. I'm not 'man,' I'm not 'dude.' I am Officer Rivieri. The sooner you learn that, the longer you're going to live in this world. Because you go around doing this kind of stuff, somebody's going to kill you."

The kid repeatedly tells Rivieri that he "didn't do anything," saying he wants to call his mom.

Phone calls seeking comment from the police union were not immediately returned.

The video, from last July, surfaced on the Internet recently. Clifford said a member of the media e-mailed the clip to the police department late Sunday.

Rivieri is confined to administrative work on his suspension with pay.

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon said she was disappointed after watching the video, Clifford said.

“We’ve invested a lot of time and effort and energy trying to build a stronger relationship between the citizens of Baltimore and the police department,” Clifford said. “An incident like this obviously has the potential to undo this work.”

good point about the dude should've been addressed as "sir".
but...look at his car...how could one fake respect when a fat guy dressed like a softball umpire jumps out of a "patrol vehicle" that looks like a golf cart space ship.
they should've trucked the sac-o-lard and split.

kidding.

the guys behavior certainly doesnt merit respect. Seems like he got picked last for kickball as a kid and now has a grudge. But as far as the kids go... they stand only to lose by being mouthy.

they weren't exactly being 'mouthy.' they just called him 'dude' instead of sir. i'd call a cop 'sir' if i felt it would help my situation but as far as i'm aware it is not my civil responsibility to give an officer of the law such instant respect. calling him 'dude' was not an excuse to put a kid in a head lock and wrestle him to the ground.

he could have moved those timid kids on far easier by approaching them with a bit of respect and decency. sometimes, you have to take a little sh*t to get the result you want and that includes the police. conflict can often be resolved by a willingness to concede to some level.

this man needs to be stripped of his authority.

I feel bad for those kids, but they shouldn't have hung out for the verbal beat down. If those kids are real skaters you don't get off your board and let a cop give you an earfull of hate.

I ran/skated away every time the pigs showed up for illegal tresspassing.
Every skater for himself and scatter like roaches. That Rivieri pig would've had a heart attack chasing those kids if they knew how to skate fast and hard. Seeing them stand around bummed me out as much as his behavior. At least the "dude" part was pretty funny....

I got busted once, was cited and showed up for court. The cop never showed so I walked.

Yeah, we had some success with that. I've also been caught and thrown in a cell for hours at a time, in the Middle East.

My glory moment came when I decked a security guard who tried to take my board.

You can't always run though. You have half a second to figure out if you can talk your way out or book it. In the future I'm sure all those kids will be paying better attention to their surroundings. The best way is to meander away before pigs and/or baco-bits even get a chance to go into farva mode. Although, in that situation they should have hauled sac for sure.

Toaster ovens.

Toaster ovens piss me off.

So do the people that have toaster ovens.

Fuking weirdos.

You ever try to make toast in a toaster oven? It takes 15 fuking minutes! then the damn toast is burnt on half of it, and not the same half either. Half of one side, then half the other side on opposite ends. so you end up with this kitty-corner burnt fuking toast and had to wait 15 minutes for it. Then you go to pick it up and the burnt quarter burns the prints off of your fingers and the raw end flops like my belly over my belt all cold and soft.

Nobody ever uses a toaster oven for anything else either.

sure they always talk about how they make great cheese sandwiches or tuna melts, but they never use them for that. All they do is make crappy toast with them.

It reminds me of Ellwood making toast over the hot plate while Jake crashes out to the lullaby of the L.

And they are expensive. A "good" (yeah right!) toaster oven will cost you about $50.

A regular GE toaster will cost you about $10 and will make your toast as dark or as light as you want EVENLY and in about 4 minutes.

A fuking toaster oven needs 10 minutes just to warm up and they take up more room than a fuking microwave, unless it is one of those really crappy small microwaves that will barely heat a 2-day-old cup of coffee in under 20 minutes and who the hell wants one of those?!? You cannot even make popcorn in one of those and let's face it, popcorn, is the ONLY reason to have a microwave!

Microwave cookbooks are a joke! Right up there with those horoscope things you read at the grocery counter while you are waiting for the old lady in front of you to count out the change or the mexican to understand that Winco does not take pesos as you stand there reading what miserable condition your love life will be in and...hey...the welfare mom has moved on so you saunter up to the clerk with the gold tooth and pay your way. By the time you get to your main squeezes place you really want some toast but NO she has a fuking toaster oven! So you spend the next 15 minutes of your life realizing how correct that horoscope really was.

Creeps me out every time.

Just like a toaster oven.

Toaster convection ovens are awesome. My friend bought one for his beachhouse and it get chicken nuggets crispy and perfectly cooked. The beachhouses oven on the otherhand only burns no matter what temperature you try to bake with. Not to mention it is large enough for a meal for two. Oh and it is still supposed to make toast. You forgot to mention how piping hot the outsides of toaster ovens get though...
