What pisses me off...........

This forum is for SURF topics such as localism and rants that are usually negative in nature. If you're a baby, complainer, or generally think you're right and everyone else is wrong this is the place for you. PLEASE NOTE, all forum rules still apply, but just a little more liberally enforced. Registration is required.

How do you know people were assuming you were racsist?

I think in Portland, there is a better understanding of skinhead history and culture b/c there are properly more SHARPs thans Nazis.

a lot of people see my bald head and goatee, and think i am either a counter-culture hipster or a skinhead. then they look at my blue collar clothes and pitch covered hands and they think i am a worker person. then they see my pointy nose and glasses and they think i am a nebbish, but then they start talking to me and can't get away, and even though some of the comments are funny or poignant they are awash in a sea of babble, and then, they know I am not a skinhead, I am just irritating.

sit next to me in the line-up, I have something to tell you...

When my younger brother was having struggles in high school...
My mom who didn't really have to work...
And had retired from a research position at UCSD...
But had taken a job greenhouse worker out of boredom...
Went in to talk with his counselor in her work clothes...
The guy proceeded to talk to her in a very condescending manner...
Then the principal came in, saw her and walked over...
He shook her hand and asked...
"Would you be interested in teaching biology next term?"...
She said "Maybe, I'm doing some part time carbon dating research next year at Scripps...but I'd like to."
Then turned back to the counselor...
"Where were we?"...
The guy basically was so flustered he couldn't even look at her.
You never know...

winter=curly scruffy unkempt hippie
spring-summer=razor season
fall=growing season

bald or scruffy, people seem to treat me the same

its true-you never know and most people aren't thinking 'theres a skinhead' everytime they see a shaved head

[quote="Hermgruf"]Wore suits to work for 7 years, noticed quite a difference in how I was treated going between wearing them and the rags I put on in the off hours. Never liked the suits, wasn't me, hated the assumptions. Now I'm in my 'normal' clothes at the new career and feel much better.[quote]
I had a career fair at school last week so I ran into Staples for resume paper. There is a definite difference in how people treat you when you are wearing business clothing (in my case a skirt). At the career fair I was surprised how many people were dressed in some horrible looking outfits that were not even appropriate for an interview at McDonalds.

You know what really ticks me off is finding out that my replacement has been hired and is going to be full freaking time (which I was part-time) not from my boss but from the person they hired. Really? I am an adult why didn't you just tell me when you hired her she is in my freaking class for goodness sakes.

Having a shaved heads great, just look mean and people will leave you alone. Besides people need a bad guy to point to make them feel better.

iTunes sucks @ss. This felch-fest continually loses or deletes songs I have loaded into it, inexplicably loses whole playlists, and the billing can be a real headache. Also, lets say you wnat to look up some really, really obscure song (not) like "Ode to Billy Joe" by Bobby Gentry, or "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley.... no luck! You can find some bullshift re-make or cover version, but not the original.

I put about 10 CD's in about three weeks ago, and slowly, surely, they have disappeared, along with some shizznit that I bought from iTunes-store. And we've bought songs that wouldn't play.

iTunes is a bunch of crap.

Rhapsody. The only way to go. I gave up on itunes months ago. As long as your not looking to burn the music to CD's (otherwise you pay itunes-esque track prices), and just play it on either your computer or download it to your MP3 player (to play in the car, at home etc), you're set. $9.99/month for all the music you can shake a stick at.
Boardriding is about timing and style...It’s youthful, active, casual, and free flowing. There is no wrong way to ride a board. The goal is simply to learn, progress, improve, and give it your own interpretation.
