What pisses me off...........

This forum is for SURF topics such as localism and rants that are usually negative in nature. If you're a baby, complainer, or generally think you're right and everyone else is wrong this is the place for you. PLEASE NOTE, all forum rules still apply, but just a little more liberally enforced. Registration is required.

well, my job is in a weird limbo at the moment. its all or nothing, lately. hence my OSP count. so i don't really deserve any props. sometimes, it is a crusade. but a lot of the time, its just a matter of going through the motions within the limitations of the job.

grizz deserves just as much props being a teach and so do you being a mother.

if the kids i worked with had supportive teachers and mothers, there'd would have been less chance they ended up on the street.

I had to take home ec to graduate, i'm not sure why. I passed the whole quarter by baking one apple pie at home and bringing a slice to school for the teacher. I acctually think that's about all I did in that class..

because some people abuse the system, and because some people do not deserve our compassion...should we no longer have compassion for anyone?
life's short. too short.

Compassion?????

Compassion reminds me of words such as Unicorn

We all know what they are.

We can all give a reasonably good description of what one is

but……

They don’t exist in the real world

Besides….

Social programs are not about compassion (self serving belief, for the most part not supported by reality).

Social programs exist because if their is one thing the ruling class cares about more than their posesitions,

it’s their own mortality

(why else would they send the poor from rural communities to fight their wars when they have the most to gain or lose from the outcome).

And….

Sociologists identified long ago that one of the traits that makes people dangerous is, “having nothing to lose,”

As a solution Social programs were created by the ruling class to
give the poor, "something to lose.”

Republicanista's:

I think you’re looking at social programs the wrong way, rather than looking at them as though you’re getting screwed, think of social programs as more of an investment, like getting the oil changed in your car every 3500 miles.

You can pay a little now, or you can choose to pay a lot more later.

At least, you’re getting something for your money.

That has to be better than getting nothing for your money.

I mean, It has to be better than paying two dollars more for a gallon of gas today, compared to four years ago. After all, the majority of you  aren't getting anything extra, you’re still getting the same old gallon of gas. You’re only paying more for it.

Ironically, I can sort of agree with this analysis. Social Workers and even teachers are definitely 'buffers' between the disenfranchised and the ruling elite.

I also tend to agree that prevention is better than cure. Invest in the youth. More skateparks, less cops!

I'm not sure I believe in 'compassion' or 'alturism' either. It is more, there is a job to be done, pieces to be picked up, let's do it, for all our sakes.
