Hard to muster the thought of riding a thruster. Speed kills.

it doesn't rhyme, but nothing projects like a thruster. bury it as deep as you want. no other set up gives you this. all you snowboarders and skateboarders can keep trying to replicate your backgrounds in the water but progression comes in 3's.

i love my quad. probably my favorite board to ride, but it's a little thinner -- about 1/8" -- than all my other boards and at 180+ lbs, it can be a little much to paddle if the waves don't have some umph.

off-topic, kinda, but what's with every board that has a swallow tail being called a "fish" nowadays. has anybody else noticed that? i'm mainly referring to CL classifieds and some other posts i've seen. weird.

Nothing is off topic as this is the OSP. But you're right, everything is now a fish. It probably has to do with the fact that there a now about a billion "surfers" or at least surfboard owners (bs) and most product now comes from China. Ever dealt with the Chinese? Charlie don't surf.

This is nothing new.
8 years ago I asked for a fish to be shaped for me from a local shaper.
What I got was a swallow tail thruster.
I wasn't stoked at the time because I wanted something more floaty.
After letting it sit in the racks for 2 years I started using it as my travel board. Now it is now my favorite board.
Going back many years I've heard many of people commenting on their "new" fish and remember thinking to myself. That aint no fish. That's just a performance short board with a swallow tail.

A finless board wouldn't interrupt the flowing lines of my Honda element though. ;)

Okay, that's pretty good.

I actually do want to ride an alaia. I grew up riding a piece of plywood that was essentially a poipo, but I didn't know it at the time. I just know I could body board on it and it was a lot of fun.
