She had the insurance number and company listed on the citation and when I called they said it had expired in Nov.

My cousin is a lawyer and he said it wouldnt be worth going after the driver.

I had eight people helping me at the scene of the accident. Really cool to see people just come out of the woodwork to help. Luckily I have uninsured motorist insurance...highly recommend that for everyone.

Seeing an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday to find out the extent of the shoulder damage. Anyway, one less guy in the line up for a while. Talk about pain and suffering. Trying to get back up to Yakutat in April....fingers crossed.

I did not know that your auto insurance would cover that. There was a cyclist hit by an uninsured driver up here this week also in B'ham.

Hey Trula,

Just have the cyclist call their motor insurance carrier and ask if they have uninsured motorist coverage. I didnt think I did but the agent said a majority of people do.

bummer tex. how did it happen? and where?

NE Portland.....heading east on Skidmore approaching MLK.

Driver was heading west on Skidmore and then turned left on NE Garfield just as I was going through the intersection.

My bike took all of the impact from the car, broke the frame in two different places and sent me with the bike over the hood. Landed on the my right shoulder and my feet were still locked into the pedals.

Bottom line is that it could have been so much worse. Had the work laptop in my backback, not a scratch, my helmet never hit the ground. None of my cycling clothes were ripped except the inner jersey which the medics had to cut off so I could get my arm out.

I was really really lucky.

That's awesome, I did not know Underinsured Motorist policies cover you when you're not in a motor vehicle yourself.

About a year ago a freind of mine whom races bikes for charity was training and ended up getting hit by an idiot who blew through a red light.

He pretty much went through the windsheild and was broken up pretty bad.

Bikes scare me, they rely too much on the other people having your life in their hands.

if the bike doesen't go through the windshield and hit the driver, and if you're okay enough to get up, it's your obligation to make sure the bike goes through the windshield and hits the driver.

And don't go claiming that that was a unique case. These were soldiers following a protocol that the military would like to keep quiet. It's not as clear-cut as your ilk would like it to be. And you damn well better not claim that those "prisoners" deserved their treatment.

I would not claim that they did deserve that. Clearly a very serious issue, however we at least can see the fault in this. To them, it's a way of life, unfortunately. You might even say that the war itself is part of the reason this is happening (Taliban abusing villagers) as they have been employing these methods to enslave villiage men into becoming soldiers for a fight they want nothing to do with. sick sick people, all of them.

I would love to know what this protocol was though. You cannot jump to the conclusion that just because they were in the military they were following valid orders from above. I have not read every report that's come out and maybe the soldiers said they were following orders...

As far as isolated incident... I am sure they employ every measure they've felt necessary to obtain the information they 'need', and if the enemy in question is a well known bad guy I have no problem with that. Geneva Convention or otherwise. Some of them do far worse things to our war prisoners than we will ever do to them (in interrogation).
