Pfffhttt!
Sharks!
Hoax...
I hope.
I don't think there's alot of motherly love...
With that species...
But yes...
Surf...
Despite semi borderline appearances...
Was pretty fun overall...
High tide warbles warbling...
Rights, rights, rights...
Then a left...
Had a peak to myself...
Pretty much the whole 3 hour session...

heavy and hollow, shallow, holddowns with sand in ears, noses, eyes, hair... yes! minus tide madness. shared a peak with 2 friends.... perfect and powerful... miles of empty beach in each direction.

Post script - I've been trying to identify this little shark. I was insisting that it was a juvenile white shark. However, after looking at pictures and decriptions on-line I now think it is a Juvvy salmon shark. I've caught adult salmon sharks before and they are distinctive with a darker top color and blotches on the belly and large eye and smaller mouth. This is the first Juvenile salmon shark I have seen and it is hard to tell the difference between this and a yound whitey. Any of you Biology types out there know what species this is? It was about 3 ft long.

24August southern Oregon. Seal puts it in scale. Apparently this was shot from a plane on a flat day

Yesterday was pretty glassy, the water looked and smelled funky and the seabirds were going crazy for anchovies. Surfed with Rocky. Waves were really good, a little underhead but don't tell EV that cause I insisted it sucked to make her feel better since she had to go to a wedding shower instead.

Finally surfed out....!!!!!!

Warm water glassiness, a bit o' wind in the afternoon but no worries with that. 3/2 no booties, longboard, shortboard. Waist high to head high plus, late summer goodness in the pnw is hard to beat.

Lotta faces around some new some old.........

I concur with what Gaz said.
Surfed out!

Gaz, I wasn't planning on taking 20 waves on the head after taking that left.
By the time I made it back out I was down at the south bowl again.
Beautiful empty waves.

Salmon shark indeed. THe White shark lacks the seconary caudal keel, which im pretty sure this guy has.[/quote]

Yes Salmon shark for sure. Two or so years ago when we had all that warm water for weeks these little suckers were washing up all over the NW. However, I was always under the impression that Salmon sharks are just juvenile great white's. Lots of salmon jumping in the rivers right now.

Turns out juvenile white sharks can be 5 ft long at birth. Also Whitey has triangular cerated teeth. This guy had smoothe elongated teeth top and bottom.

This weekend it was the Rogue Gathering for team Fossilgrom and we brought home the wood. Tippy toes was in fine style and took 1st place in her division. Weather was spectacular - waves varied from tiny ankle slappers to shoulder high peelers. Very fun mellow contest this year.

Early fall lit up this little spot on the N. Coast to damn near perfection. 4 guys out with waves for everyone. Had to paddle way the hell out though two thumping sandbars. Once outside, the walls were so sweet...multiple turns per wave. Surfed from 3:00 to dark on the outgoing tide. Empty bombs for me and the boys.

Getting outside took serious work.

such a fun weekend! friday night surfed for 3 hours, some big bombs... back on the longboard for a few days to get my mind into the contest mode... got slammed hard numerous times and ended up with a pretty good bruise on my back, glad i can still walk! i forgot how scary it is to get worked with a heavy log tumbling beneath you as you get taken out by a lip.... yoowzers! surfed 5 hours on saturday, most of that with smithgrind and slim... sunday, 3 sessions, one of which was the rogue contest heat. i can't recall seeing better longboarding conditions at any contest in the forseeable past... clean, glassy, lined up with nice shoulders.
lots of good talent showcased this weekend. saw fossilgrom get some crazy good nose rides on his SUP, and the whole fossil family shredding all over the place, taking home trophies. lots of familiar faces around this weekend, lots of smiles, sun tans, good vibes; exactly what surfing should be about. feels like paradise.
