Wave Garden

So who has heard anything about the Wave Garden?
Check it out at Surfline posted yesterday in the video section.

Looked a lot cheaper than these ASR pools.

I guess more info is coming out on the 15th.

I stumbled onto some video of Slater's wave pool project:
http://www.youtube.com/user/KSWaveCo#p/ ... GWWFzCM9uk

And here's the wave garden web site:
http://www.wave-garden.com/

Interesting stuff. The Slater project looks like some sort of circular infinite wave, but the video doesn't show much. The wave garden thing looks perfect & fun, but weak.

Thanks for posting the link to the website. It looks like there is potential for other types of waves beyond the one in the video.

Anybody on the forum interested in trying to get one built in the Northwest? Pitching it to local municipalities?

A little bird told me Perfect Wave had something like this brewing. Good news for those Westport wavehogs.
The service here sucks.

"Had something brewing"? I would head up to their shop to check out a wave pool for sure.
I think one should be built in the Valley...better yet, my back yard!

I guess the fact that there is a wave breaking in the middle of a meadow is somehow compelling enough at least for me. The flexibility of location definitely has peaked my interest. I am hearing that they are working on developing bigger and different shaped waves. If I could get that exact wave, in a park where a baseball diamond or a skate bowl is currently located, I would be super stoked.

from wave-garden.com:

2. How big can a Wavegarden wave be?
It can technically be any size, although a maximum height of 1.6 metres is recommended.

7. How long can a Wavegarden wave break?
The maximum distance of a Wavegarden wave is only limited by the size of your available space. We can create waves up to 3km in length so far!

8. Only the first part of the wave could be used in the wave facilities built so far. Is that the same with Wavegarden?
No. Wavegarden has developed a unique technology that generates perfect waves with tubes throughout the entire length of their breaks.

9. Can the Wavegarden only generate linear waves?
No, we can create any type of wave: circular waves that are “endless” and open/linear waves with a beginning and end. All Wavegardens are built according to the type of wave that is best suited for each space.

this is from an interview with one of the co-founders:

How big do you think the biggest wave it could make would be?

No idea. Way too big for most surfers to be comfortable with. Maybe the sky’s the limit?

This here looks to be the device they are using, model from 2006, but havnt come across any info or videos showing it in action. The rest of the model and prototype photos on wave-garden.com dont shed much light.
