I'll bite...

paddled out at Ocean Beach in 63' in cut-off Levi's on an old Duke K popout...
10 mins in, shiver for half an hour around the fire, repeat as able...
non-stop ever since.

Posted up further south, decades of peace, than Mav's blew up,
other more reasonable spots became known, the hordes descended,
the OG's watching paradise slowly wash away with each new tidal influx...

the new local from Texas stink eyeing the newer local from Florida at
a local beachie in are you kidding conditions,
contractors knocking down 50 year old seaside cottages and replacing them
with spec' megapads for newly minted Silicone Valley winners,
traffic doubling the work commute from the beach and back,
kids now unable to afford a home in the town they were raised in..

So fugg it, bailed north 5 years ago looking for something quieter with a taste
of how it used to be, when you could get the occasional session with just a friend or two,
sometimes even one by yourself.

I'm LC, just an old kook, still paddling out whenever I can...
damn thing is gaining on me...

Hi, I'm dogfur.
Smooth, shiny, white dogfur.
I'm pretty much waterproof.
I float.
I'm rugged, yet flexible.
When I get on it, I stick like grim death-
but in a carefree, happy way.
If fun has a smell, it's wet dogfur,
mixed with a little driftwood smoke,
delicious ice cold beer,
maybe a good cigar,
and some friends,
relaxing on the beach,
after a long day of surfing,
while the summer evening sun
sneaks slowly,
silently,
slyly,
behind the sea.
Yeah,
that's who I am.
Life is too important to be taken seriously.

Hey Oregon surf,
This may be more than anyone wants to know...
I'm a former east coaster (grew up in Boston) but also a life long oregon coaster in spirit. Grew up spending chunks of summers in Coos Bay where my grandma lived, messing around with driftwood and tide pools at Sunset Bay, getting sunburned in the dunes, eating fresh crab in her RV looking over the beach in Bandon. Started surfing in New York and New Jersey when I was in my early 30s. Long subway and train rides to surf at dawn and get home in time for work. Loved it. Now I'm 40 and living in Portland. I'm looking for folks to share occasional long drives to surf at dawn and get home by mid day to take care of my kids. I've got a car and a rack and some 1980s punk and ska etc mix tapes for the cassette player. I'm not a great surfer but I take care not to be a total kook and I don't drop in.
I'm really glad to be back where I can get to the Oregon coast, and stoked that I can now experience it from the water. Looking forward to sharing the ocean with some of you.
cheers,
Luke

I'll let someone else make the cracks and echo McDing, welcome to the OSP Luke...
There are a few of us up in NE....should definitely look at carpool options. I am always a fan of the dawn patrol. My old lady loves it when I am back before 1:00. Oh and zero crowds at dawn.

Thanks Tex and McD. After getting up at 4 and spending 5 and 1/2 hours of driving there and back and up and down the coast on Monday all for 25 minutes of duck diving and bobbing around in messy, blown out, crossed up closeouts I was thinking it would nicer to share the trip with someone. Oh well, at least I got wet and worked the paddling muscles a bit. And got a pleasant walk through the woods in the rain. And got home by lunch time. Actually it was pretty refreshing all in all. Just not about surfing. Send me a message with your contact info and next time I will try to hook up ... hopefully for a more surfing oriented expedition.

What's up I go by con, I grew up learning to surf on oahu. That doesn't mean I'm not a kook, but it does mean I know how to stay out of the way. I'm in NE Portland as well and get about 13mpg. I'm always down to throw on some gas...or beer, or both. I go every Sunday or Monday if I'm around. PM me if you need gas or a ride

Sounds like you have the right attitude, which is 90% of what it takes to be a happy OR surfer. The other 10% is a board that paddles well, good outerwear, and a taste for hops. maybe i have those percentages reversed.
