Drove all over the north coast yesterday, all I found was whitewater and closeouts, dawn patrol tomorrow.

Another fun day in a south central river mouth Saturday. Once again the reported tide time seemed to be off by at least an hour. WTF? I didn't think they could be that far off. Nice sunny day with light north wind and shouider high drops into knee-waist high glassy faces. Six surfers sharing smooth, sun-splashed spillers for about 2 1/2 hrs. Lots of practice on the longboard cutbacks. Finished off with a little beach combing with the big yellow dog (who found a gnarled, twisted and frayed up piece of rope he fell in love with) and a 1/2 hr. nap on the sun-warmed sand. Ahhh, can't wait for summer. Oh, great - forecast calling for south wind and rain all week. Just close your eyes and think back...

That...
Is the best surf report...
I've read...
In a very long time.

Far superior to the...
"Surfed today" fare...
That's become the staple...
Of the OSP.

Thanks Dogfur

That's worse than me...
But I dont remember the last time I surfed...
February maybe...?
Still can't put my arm above my shoulder...
Which, while good for drinking...
Sucks for paddling.

A couple weeks ago I dp'd it on a forecast that had kept me up most of the night; winds looks bout perfect but swell was supposed to be 13@17  . Checked buoys on the 50 of every hour for the entire drive over and was sweating in the dark at what I saw. Watched the road crew move the barrier for the tunnel at 5:50 and showed coastal just after dawn. Arrived to just what I feared, the line-up looked like spilled Guinness and was breaking wildly wide and unpredictable. A pair of hardy souls were ahead of me and opted for the surepound. I was dismayed by what I saw and opted for a cat nap. A hour later I decided to join said hardy souls but upon my arrival they bailed... :? I caught one there, I had hardly slept all night and didn't want to wank on inside mush so paddled out to pay my dues. Shoulder hopped a few, fought that fishy feeling and finally the peak came to me. Jacked over my head and freight trained through the inside, round the corner, quick pump into surepound, cannon balled to the lot and out on the rocks. I had seen it happen but never for me...stoked 8) . Grabbed an OLY to celebrate and drove back to reality.

p.s. I surfed today
can't keep my eyes from the circling skies

Worthy of a reading...
For an injured former surfer...
Who hasn't been wet since the 1st week of February.
