Finally got a chance to try my 5'0 Simmons replica. Conditions were perfect for it. Small, waist to chest high waves with very little juice. But the boad did pretty good. Had a fun session with about 10 people down on the n. end of shorty's.

Fun rights with the crew at a low key spot on the pushing tide yesterday. No problems paddling or catching waves...safe to say my injury woes are over. Stoked!

Showed up at the local spot about 5:30 pm Sunday. A couple of people just leaving. On shore wind and flat ocean. Paddled out just to get wet. Caught a few little waves, got startled by a big sea lion a few times. back on shore about 7:30 gathered up some driftwood made a fire and cooked dinner. Camped on the jetty with the big yellow dog. Beautiful starry night, had the whole beach to ourselves. Noticed the wind switched to off shore about 10:30 pm. Alright!. Should be good Monday morning. Wrong.
Woke up to wind and driving rain. Tried to hold out,, but bailed about 10, drove north for an hour. Everyplace looked like mixed up slop, but the weather did clear up. Headed back south back out to my starting point to find nice clean, sunny little knee high peelers in the rivermouth. Surfed for a couple of hours in the sunshine, then headed back to town for another week in the dungeon. Sposed to start raining again Friday. God I love Oregon.

I was semi enjoying junky chest highs by myself when two others joined. Pretty soon this one guy who had blown nearly every wave he went for drops in on me. I don't care. Even on a good day I don't really care. Then he paddles over, calls me a faggot and tells me to beat it cause he "lives here and its his spot" That was the highlight of a completly forgetable session.

Dateline: Saturday May 14. Location: secret spot no. S.J.F. Time: 10:30 a.m. Weather: classic Oregon coast - light on-shore wind, light rain, light fog.

Crowd factor: tow short boards, two long boards, one SUP. Wildlife: one whale, two sealions, various sea birds, one big yellow dog, one tiny little brown and white dog. About an hour and a half of paddling for shi(f)ty peaks, only the SUP catching anything consistently. Never saw the others riding waves, but they claimed to have caught a few. As for me, first wave was one that rose up about head high, flattened off, then pitched. I'm in, pop to my feet, oh, I'm not in, stood up too soon, oh, wait, I am in, wow, now I'm vertical - face plant. Took the slightly larger following wave on the head for good measure. Paddled back out and bobbed around for another 45 minutes. Second wave at least got a drop and bottom turn. Hey, now where'd that wave go?? Finally bailed, found three dollars on the beach.

Back to the surf bus for a warm heater and a cold beer. Not exactly the perfect day, but a good workout and always fun to be out in the ocean.

Sunday - significantly better than Saturday, slightly smaller and a little more consistent peak. Big patches of blue sky, light south wind, kind of choppy, but not enough to wreck things. Surfed alone for about 2 hrs. Caught quite a few waist-chest high rides, nothing spectacular. It was nice to surf in sunshine for a change. Seemed a lot warmer than Saturday. Still a couple of whales hanging out about 50 yards off the end of the jetty. I think they were enjoying themselves as much as I was.

Got some fun surf on Friday and Saturday up in WA.
Winds were blowing hard off shore which was nice, waves were waist to shoulder high. Some were throwing out a bit, swore I could have tucked into a few barrels IF I had been in the right place right time. Waves were shifting around a lot. The joy of beach breaks. Nice to get waves and sun at the same time.

found a really nice looking glassy peak last night. it was oil glass, with hollow little waves peeling both ways. but, of course i drove away thinking i could find something better. and, inevitably i didn't. ended up driving into a rain shower, watching the surf go to crud with every passing mile. turned around, one hour later and went back to my original spot. lo and behold, the same peak was there. i scrambled into my wettie, raced across the dunes, hopped into the rip, caught one wave and then it went to complete sh*te with an onshore wind. i broke the golden rule of oregon surf and paid the price. drank a tin on the beach and then realized the tunnel on 26, was going to close in 5 minutes. watched the surf glass off and turn on again and then hopped in the f*cking car and drove away from it for the second time. four hours in a metal box, for one decent wave.

anyway, aside from my last session, i've had some good waves of recent, but you don't need to know about any of that...
