You're right, greystoke. 6 @ 11 with offshores on the push and blue skies. I found a flat rock and slipped into my board bag for a wee bit of a snooze. Woke up in time to pack up my gear and drive back to the valley for work. As good as it gets in July.

Isn't this thread a bit anti-semitic?

I was hoping it would be taken as anti-semantic...

went out for one of the last strait swells for what looks like a while. Arrived early and too low tide. SNoozed in the board sock and woke to chest high waves and the first 8 surfers all paddling out at once. I was the ninth. There were some good surfers out and everyone had a good sense of priority. Fun waves. I'm really looking forward to fall out there. and winter, and spring, and fall and winter and springfallwinterspring...

Independence Day weekend started with a "bang" - when the cooling tower on the Surf Bus exploded on the way out of town. Luckily the local parts dealer stayed 'till 6. A couple of hours of wrenching later (friggin' German engineering) and she was back in operation, and the Sweet Little Thing and the dogs and me were headed for the beach, but too late to surf Friday nite.
Saturday morning was wet and blown out at the "home break" so headed north for wind protection. First go out was a workout, even though the swell wasn't that big, there wasn't much space between waves. Lots of closeouts. Got three okay waves, and getting back outside after each was ridiculously hard. Laid in the sun for a couple of hours and went back out to smaller waves, but maybe a little cleaner as the tide came in. A couple of hours and a few decent waves later we packed up and went a couple of spots farther north and found some home town friends. Spent the evening sharing small little fun waves there, and beer and barbequed weenies on the beach.
Sunday morning it was back south and a lot cleaner and more lined up. Had about the best three our session I've had in a couple of weeks. The Sweet little thing got lots of rides, and the weather was as good as it gets.
Sadly, we had to go back to town for a wedding Sunday nite. Wasn't all bad though, a live jazz/blues band, good food and free local micro brews. Saw some old friends, and the "ceremony" was short and sweet, and actually quite amusing. Rather than traditional vows, the bride said something about how it was love at first sight, and promised to be faithful forever, blah blah blah, then the groom - I'm not kidding - said something about how they'd met at a grocery store, and "she just blew me right away". I have no idea what he said after that. I'll tell you, it took all the strength I've built up from hours on the water to keep that mouthful of Ninkasi from spraying all over the people in front of me.
Monday morning we picked up our 8 yr. old grand daughter and headed back out to the beach. Wrapped her in rubber, plopped her on a stick of foam and threw her in the ocean. A few belly rides later she's riding like a little surfer girl.

Then old grampa paddled out with a few other gray-hairs and had about three hours of knee-waist high lefts on the incoming tide. Got lots of fun rides, quite a bit of tip time, and a pretty warm sunburn on the old bald noggin' to help me remember it all for the next few days.

Got out last night....checked some northern spots but ended up in SS. In hindsight, I should have hit the other spots.
Tide was pushing hard in and creating some pretty deep holes.

Southend had the better waves but they were hard to get into, at least on my 6'5. I saw longboarders even struggle to get into some of the outside sets. Waves were anywhere from waist to head high. Some were closing out 75% of the bay with the long period.

A number of others were catching some rippable waves and if they were posting, might be a lot more stoked than I was with my session.

Surfed Yaquina Head last night. Water was nice and warm. Waves were anywhere from knee high to shoulder high. Only a handful of folks out including a couple of SUP'ers.

Waves were fun for sure, got some fun little rippers that were bouncing off the wall. Everyone was super mellow down there.

Heading back east on HWY 20 saw and very bad car wreck...the back axel of the car had been completely ripped off and the engine was gone. Involved a huge Oversized Load Semi. Hope everyone was ok.

Tuesday a.m. anticipated a slow work day and a favorable surf forecast, so I loaded surf gear and a couple beers into the Surf Bus and drove to work rather than ride my bike. Sure enough I got released a couple of hours early and headed west.
Sadly, that meant leaving the Big Yellow Dog behind at home with his girlfriend Old Bad Blackie. I kept looking for him in that empty back seat, like when you forget to put on your wristwatch and you keep looking at your wrist, but there's only bare skin.
So I get to the same place Tex was at Monday, and find similar conditions. Nice and sunny, about 10 people or so out. Waist to chest high waves and warm water. Wore the 4/3 and booties for the first 2 hours, then took a wave to the sand and ditched the booties.
Surfed another 2 hours bootieless, the next best thing to no wetsuit. Missed more waves than I caught, took off on some closeouts, but got 2 nice long lefts and two nice long rights that held up for some decent nose rides with a couple of cutbacks mixed in. Saw the local boys get some great rides, one pretty late drop on a steep wall into a backside rail-grab and shoot down the line that put a smile on some faces.
Just before heading in, at about 8:30 as the sun was getting low, I noticed a weird reflection off some clouds that looked like a round rainbow effect with bright glare in the center. It almost looked like there were two suns for a few minutes. Wished I had my camera.
I didn't realize how cold my feet were until I started walking up the rocky trail barefoot. It probably would have been painful if they hadn't been numb. Now I know the old air cooled buses are classy and soulful, I love 'em. But the good old water cooled Surf Bus, she's got a heater that really cranks. She thawed out my toes before I got to Toledo.
Home by 11, just in time to jump in the hot tub with the Sweet Little Thing.
Makes all those hours spent being beaten down on the job worthwhile if I can have a day like that now and then...
aaahhh yeah, the sweet Elixir of Life...

Surfed in the 4/3 no booties for 2 hrs Friday p.m., on a popular central coast spot. Got out of the water and peeled down to the boardies and waded around with the Big Yellow Dog, trying to scrub off some of that loose fur. I should know better. That always put the Look of Love in his eyes. (He spent the rest of the evening playing bingo with my beach blanket.) Realized the water was really pretty warm. Ran up and grabbed my board and went out to catch one wave just to see. First wave I paddled for closed out, washing over me completely. Not that bad. Paddled back out and caught the next wave, a small left and rode it back to the beach. About a 10-15 min. go-out. The worst part was sitting waiting for a wave, with the wind blowing pretty good. Could have easily stayed out longer, but I was already kind of tired, and I just went out there to see. Heard the water temp was about 62. Dropped about 6-7 degrees overnight. Lots colder Saturday, but sunny and fun. Got tons of fun rides. Great day for a good old fashioned party on the beach. Kind of crappy Sunday and a little hung over from Saturday night. Tried to tell The Sweet Little Thing I was just tired, but she was there. She saw it with her own eyes.
