Magic boards

Postby SooLoo » Thu Aug 25, 2011 3:49 pm

Here is mine. Rides like a hot knife through butter and looks like a sack of $hit. A good friend left it at my house completely destroyed. One fin still in the plug which was still attached to the foam which had a bit of the deck attached was under the porch hidden by a couple of beer cans. Deep leash gash and untold amounts of holes and cracks and delams. I stared at that POS for a few months before finally reparing it and man it is unreal. Under my arm I knew it was going to be a good board, four strokes into the paddle I knew it was going to be a real good board and the first wave I was $hitting myself because I knew I had a gem. Having John shape me another but will it be as good? I have to repair this thing again as it will keep springing leaks but it is worth every pass of sand paper knowing the chub I will get each time I paddle out. You got or had one?

You can't fix magic, but you sure can f*ck it up.

I lost my mojo somewhere in the south lot after everyone left. :(

good topic.

i had a merrick twin fin (MTF) 6'4" winged swallow tail (of course) with a mini thruster fin.
she was petit, you know, but she was a full figured gal. quite an ample chest and narrow but round and curvy hips.
it was magic.
small waves. huge waves.
i ripped it.
i was the second owner.

at some point a magic carpet gets beyond repair. it's so sad. to bury it under the house with the others...it's sad. it's like burying your dog. kindof. well... not really. but kindof.

but i pulled it out a year or more ago and bathed it it warm water in my wife's bathtub. took a couple pictures. edited them. made 'em look all artsy. blogged about it. got all nostalgic. and put it on top of the kid's entertainment center. to dry out completely. as if i'll fix it properly some day. but i won't. it's beyond repair. it will never be what it once was. it's gone.

it's sad.

but she's so pretty lying there. her hips shining in the light of the t.v.

(i just remembered. while i was bathing her (the magic board), my six year old checked it out and said straight up, "dad, when i'm old enough and can swim and stuff can i have that board? i could rip that board." so of course i told him, "yes".)

Doc...
Amazing you can pull the most irrelevent part...
Of Grizzledoldbastards post...
In an otherwise great response to my query...
And post about it...
Kook...
When I happen to know...
You have gone to great lengths...
To keep boards afloat...
Yet you tap the keys...
And say nothing...
:D ...

I am pondering which boards to discuss...
There've been a few in 40+ years...
Some I can't even remember...
But am sure they were good.

Alright...
Magic board #1...
Backyard special...
Heavy, single fin, no rocker...
It wouldn't turn...
But sit in the sweet spot and race...
I don't know what happened to it...
I probably decided to get a board that turned.

I've been through sh** load of board's all shape's short and long....
Most of the time the newer the board the more impressed I am with the board but down the long road of life I beat the crap out of the board and retire it to the rack or worst yet to the basement never to see the light of day again.....
Surfing for me has more to do with me as a surfer my ability to make a board do what I want it to do,can't blame my board for my poor surfing or day's when I feel right on the money....
Don't get me wrong I love a well shaped board as much as the next guy but have a hard time wrapping my head around a magic board.....
I've had boards that never touched the water just because it did'nt feel right just sold a board a friend made for me I just could not bring myself to ride the board that's how fu%# up I am......
So for me the Magic is in me not my boards.........
If we can't be free, at least we can be cheap.....

Oh well no matter I snapped mine yesterday. A brief love affair that burned maybe a little to hot
