It is important to vary your strength training routine when the goal is to tone and firm up. This will serve a dual purpose. First, performing a variety of exercises will help the body make changes more rapidly. Muscles can get used to performing the same motion or exercise, which, in turn, will cause them not to work as hard or effectively. Secondly, variety will help prevent boredom and keep you interested and motivated with your workout routine. Try different combinations of exercises and experiment with new machines.

I find that a session followed by several beers is most beneficial...if you have to swim, ok...possibly pack in a few more beers or possibly heavy artillery t compensate for this possibility...

I have, in the last couple months, quit using a leash on both short and longboards. I get to swim more than I would with a leash. More excercise. I am getting to the point now that I only lose it once or twice a session. Good exercise. :D

I will go sans leash in smallish conditions...waist high or so...but usually only if the inside is completly devoid of bobbers...pretty rare this time of year

Are you compensating for flexibility? If so, you could be making life more difficult for yourself. Flexibility is the ability to move joints through their full range of motion. When you can't move a joint completely, you tend to compensate. For example: if you want to lift a heavy box from the floor but inflexible knee or hip joints keep you from squatting down far enough, you might use your back muscles to get the job done. The result: back pain or even injury.

To become more flexible, stretch regularly, especially after a cardio or strength-training workout. (You get the best results by stretching while your muscles are still warm.)

My right arm is super flexible...

I can drink from any angle my neck can swivel to...

I can swill using my left hand too...

So...I guess I AM ambidextrous.

I know all of you have been missing my workout postings......

So here's a couple to get you ready for all the paddling you'll be doing this winter.

25 yard pool

300 stretch
10x200 @ 2:50 (1-5 neg split; 6-10 descending)
100 easy
6x75 @ 1:30 kick
10x50 @ :50 pull
100 easy
3450 total

And......................

200 pull
12x125 @ 2:10 (descending 1-4)
100 easy
12x50 - 6 back @ 1:05 (neg split); 6 breast @ 1:15 (double under water pull off the turn)
24x25 pull - 12 @ :25; 12 @ :20
100 easy
3100 total

Have fun..........

btw: In July I added yoga to my workout repertoire........I've noticed a marked improvement in my balance and flexibility........which I'm hoping carries over to my surfing.

Here's my alternative to Nmm's workout postings......

Local bar...

5x16 ounce beers @ 45:00 (1-5 neg split; 6-10 descending)

lunch...take it easy

rehydrate 4x16 ounce water...kick it

3x6 ounce red wine @ 35:00...swill at will

dinner...greasy (base coat!)

162 total (I think?)

And......................apres meal

more beer
more wine
add some hard liquor
No reps, more free form

Have fun..........pass out, repeat

btw: In July I added tequila back into to my repertoire........I've noticed a marked deterioration in my balance and flexibility (curious?).......I'm hoping it does not cross over to my surfing.
