Oh yeah that you have to boat or hike in to unless your willing to spend $100+ a night. And even then expect several boats and lots of other surfers.

We found another beach break had it to ourselves and stayed in accommodations that were locally run and operated. And paid $5 a night!

Here's a photo from my last real surf trip. It was last september in Rodanthe(OBX), NC. This was the day we left. I didn't have any time to snap a pic earlier in the week. This is the scraps of an overhead hurricane swell. Notice the trunks, end of Sep.

About a mile south of S-turns across from the grocery store. We lucked out cause the working bar was on our street. Nice short paddle too, ever get out in overhead lineup without getting yer hair moist?

Okay, here are some Arugam Bay pics, as promised. Yep, I need a better camera, but this is cool for now. Point break. Little, clean, long waves (1000ft or so) in May. June and July are the real season, but we were there for tsunami work and got reimbursed for the flight...so I'm not complaining! The sands shift seasonally and offer 5 breaks along the bay, as well as plenty of easy beginner spots from June through July. Might be back in '07, during the real season if my tsunami stuff keeps on track. I'll try to throw in some elephant pics if I get these uploaded ok.

Jess,

Looks like a fun break. I know some guys who kicked in for some land on the beach. They love it, but said it's not all rosy. They said the break out front is fairly consistent and fun.

Looking at all my photos this is probably one of the best, so I thought I'd share. Somthing to get us through these dark days.

Not Costa Rica, but close. Have I ever mentioned that I love right points.

I snapped this as our boat pulled in to this wonderfull sand bottomed point for the morning sesh. 3 of us traded waves for hours untill the wind came up and got barreled off our @sses. One of the best trips I've ever had. Just you and your mates and no one else. The way it should be.

The Dude I sense a bit of sarcasm in your reply here? Don't be a player hater now, after all your the one riding waves in your wave pool at work while I sit here in a cubicle on the 19th floor of a high rise in downtown PDX.

Truly exotic, probably not. Really one of the poorest and most industrialized countries I have been to. Completely deforested and most of the native flora and fauna have been wipped out. But warm water, world class right points, and yes barrels. Unfortunately now there is a high end surfers resort near by that carts surfers out by the dozens via super panga. Seems the way things go these days making it that much harder to turly get away on a budget. Glad I got it when I did.

That wave although beautiful for sure.
Looks mean. I get scared surfing steep peaks like that.
I don't mind a 10 footer thats wedgy and will let you in like a drunk divorsed mother of three. But that thing looks steep. .
