Hello! I just moved to Oregon from Florida and I would like to surf here. I currently own a 6' 4" thruster and a 3/2 ripcurl Ebomb wetsuit. What would you all recommend for wetsuit thicknesses here and are hoods and booties required? Gloves? Also, what boards would you all recommend for the waves that are around here? Lastly, I need to find people to surf with because I don't like to surf alone.

Well the first thing you need to know about surf in oregon is that you don't talk about surf in oregon. Third thing is that Gaz and Doc run things around here. It's like Da Hui but in Oregon. If you think you got what it takes to surf the Epicenter then you better check yourself before Gaz wrecks yourself with a pony whip. And if you think for a second that your going to check spots all day every day and drink beers after a bitchin' session, then think again. Cause, Doc already does that and won't give you a nod.

I recommend a 6mil cause eventually they shrink, so it'll last longer but 5mil suffices 2 to 3 years and even some nuts claim they sport a 4-3 but I think they're full of it. Wear gloves and booties always and you'll never be dissapointed and have to adjust. Pretty much everyone would disagree, but bear claw sucks and it's not like you can feel your board under your feet after an hour bootyless anyways. Any board goes, you'll find what works where soon enough.

A 3/2 will be fine. and if you see Doc ask him for a beer, he'll be happy to give you one and share old Oregon surfing tales with you.

Grainsurfer,
Welcome to the board, but etiquette here is to not explicitly name surf spots.

If SooLoo was still here, that fancy wooden board might have ended up in a bonfire at PC.

Grain Surf-------Hey Doc are you a GP? If you are PM me with your info. I had to give up a great GP when I left Maui last year and am doctorless here in OR. I'll clue you to OR and the surf. I think you can tell from this forum who to stay clear of. lol.

The real "Betty" would never settle for such a limp wristed, feeble encore. That was a shambling out the alley in mismatched rubber boots pushing a busted up shopping cart entrance.
