Swell dropped a lot overnight but still OH in the early morn. Zero wind, foggy and glassy but a bit warbly at low tide. No crowd factor.

i've seen one SUPer in oregon that i felt confident had control of his board and his name rhymes with mopez. every other one scared me to varying degrees. sorry but not surprised there was an incident. hopefully the recovery goes well and muskrat is back in the water soon.

sunny, offshore, 9 @16 and nobody out...cause the waves SUCKED. I don't get it, what went wrong? Bouncy, inconsistent, closing out garbage. Only had one decent wave all session. I thought it was gonna be all time. Seriously, someone who knows more than me please explain what went wrong today...

Apparently I've forgotten how to read a NW surf forcast. Lots of driving this month.
The service here sucks.

I concur with Tatonka...
East winds, solid swell...
Suffer through a morning meeting...
Scramble west frothing...
Only to find dishevelment...
Enjoyed the sun & calm...
But surf would have been nice.

Returned a few days ago from a run to the bay area, posted up in Santa Cruz for a week of banging 2x+ west swells hitting both the west and east cliff lineups about as good as they get...Ah, the joy of paddling out on an Art Coyler semi, toasty in a 4/3, warm blue skies, ten wave sets...ah, the joy of trying to snag one in the deep peak surrounded by frothing local chargers, and when successful racing haul @ss walls through inside sections packed with shoulder weasels, board bailers, and dozens of new friends..

And as the swell finally started to drop, met my son further north, hiking into a favorite reef, spending a few hours like we used to, hooting for each other on the deep ones...immersed in the magic of two friends surfing a perfect day alone..ah, the joy...
damn thing is gaining on me...

no, so apologies to all the ripping SUPers out there, wasn't trying to disrespect the craft in any way. just saying to be aware of your abilities in different circumstances and don't be a dick.

I believe that SUPs are useful, but not for surfing.

To that effect, I decided to take a ride on my high performance Costco sweeper on the river yesterday afternoon after Gaz and I wasted a couple of hours driving around looking for surf only to get skunked.

Since I'm an experienced Costco river sweeper and never fall, I decided to forgo the wetsuit and sweep the river with a rash guard, board shorts, & booties. I launched at my normal spot on an incoming tide and paddled upstream against the current. The water still looked a little brown from the recent flooding and all of the dairies upstream, so I made sure I didn't fall. I had a deadline, but I was making good time, so I decided to go a little higher than usual, and figured I could drift back with the current.

After the turn around, I cruised down the river confidently returning waves to the curious people who were driving by. My progress slowed as I entered the filling tidewater, but I continued to paddle hard and approached my landing area with a couple of minutes to spare. I coasted toward the bank and smoothly landed the nose of my sweeper over a submerged log and onto the muddy grass. At that point, I took a couple of graceful cross steps out to the nose of the board and onto the riverbank.

My awesomeness slipped away when I realized that I had just pushed my board back into the river with my last step to the bank. At that point I was standing on the edge of the river with a paddle in my hand and no wetsuit. I paused long enough to drop a couple of F bombs, and then dove into the cold brown water to retrieve my board. I walked up to the truck, dripping, and drove home to take a shower.

PS: I hope muskrat is OK

First "Kenny Boy " was banished from the point. Now from the cove. Where is a narcissistic moron to go ?
